What it is

The Record No. 2 is the English equivalent of the Stanley No. 2, made by C&J Hampton Ltd., Sheffield (Record Tools). Black japanned finish, rosewood handles, construction analogous to Stanley. The "Very Seldom Seen" description and £642 price suggest exceptional condition or a rare variant.

Dating

Record No. 2 was produced from roughly the 1930s to the 1980s. Dating by lever cap shape, presence of SS (Stay-Set) mechanism, and logo. "Untouched Condition" is collector-valuable — intact patina allows more precise dating.
