The Stanley No.5 is the classic Bailey-pattern jack plane. At 356 mm it bridges local surface irregularities, and a slight camber on the iron allows an aggressive cut without leaving sharp track marks.
In this collection the No.5 appears most often in lot purchases — it was the most widely made working plane and remains abundant on the used market.
Cast iron body with Bailey adjustment system. Rear tote and front knob traditionally in wood. The basic silhouette remained consistent throughout the production run.
Jack plane for rough preparation. Typically the first plane in the working sequence — removing high spots and preparing the surface for a smoothing or jointing plane.
This page documents the canonical Stanley No.5 model family. Individual type attribution for owned examples may be added later.
